He could never figure out how he wanted to play with those teams from 1989-92. Changed lineups constantly and went away from what won games vs teams like UNLV. He shite the bed.

Dennis Scott is the key player. Scott is the 4th player taken in the NBA draft.

LSU did not have the depth or the experience that GT had in their lineup.

Madking the problem is Chris is more of a shooting guard, small forward type in a point guard body.

Chris was never a great assist pg type you needed for the lineup LSU had at the time.

Put Higgs, Martin or Derrick on the team and the win total would have been better.

I’m not making excuses for Brown, but there have been other programs that have under performed . North Carolina won Jordan’s freshman year but couldn’t win the next two. They had Perkins, Doghtry, and Kenny Smith. Never made the final 4 again. Chemistry is hard to come by.

That team threw down more dunks than I ever saw. Vernel had crazy, athletic dunks and Shaq and Roberts nearly took the goals down once every 5 minutes.

That offense scored over 90ppg and 91 vs Tech. Our offense wasn’t the problem, Brown refused to get out of the 2-3 zone allowing Scott and Anderson to have open 3s all second half. We were up 17 in that game.

No one has ever discussed this topic. They played both UNLV and Loyola Marymount at home (it was exactly 1 month a day after playing LSU that Hank Gathers dropped dead on the court) and beat both, but lost to teams like MSU and Florida who were not good.

I think they lost in the first round of the SEC tournament to someone that wasn't good at all.

What does that say about a team when you can beat good teams, but lose to bad teams? It means they have the talent to be anyone in the country, but a coach who doesn't know how to properly manage the talent.

We lost to a 13 win Auburn team in the SEC tourney. Something else excuse makers never talk about is that LSU was ranked #2 in the country to start that season. The season was a massive failure by our coach.

Dale, like Les Miles in football, was stuck in the past.
That's an incredible roster, if every shot counts 2 pts. But with the 3 pt shot, you only have CJ, and occasionally Mo Williamson and rarely Boudreaux.

That Georgia Tech team that beat them had Dennis Scott, Kenny Anderson, and Brian Oliver: 3 guys who could all shoot outside.

The final score was 94-91. LSU made 5 3 pointers, GT made 10.

Mo was a very good 3pt shooter, 38%, who could get red hot yet he only took 97 that year compared to CJs 246. He also did a poor job using Roberts and the stable of forwards we had on the roster. Brown did a terrible job with that group.

All 3 forwards, or the 2 centers on the court over 50% of the time?

Wayne Sims
Vernel Singleton
Harold Boudreaux

Singleton is the best of the 3, Wayne very nice guy but he is a Jr and still looking for a spot in the starting 5. Harold Boudreaux was the other brother everyone wanted Carol. Harold was a great high school player, his brother was a little better. Saw all 3 play in high school.

When we had Roberts and O'Neal on the court at the same time, the team seemed slower.

I watched the game at Miss. ST. that year and took a number of photographs.

This is the game Kent blow it with me, not understanding the reason we had the all-time assist list, block list and steal list in the media guide was because I spent hours at LSU doing research on Pete and put the list together and had Jimmy put it in the media guide. I had everyone on the teams' autographs but Shaq and ask if he could sign it, Lowe said no.

This was actually the beginning of Dale's demise. When he never got past the second round with Shaquille, a lot of the recruits started seeing through his facade.

This a stupid myopic view. Pull up the roster for UNLV, Duke, Ga Tech, Arkansas all those team were loaded and they had upper class men. Shaq turned 18 in March of 90, he wasn’t the same player he became in the NBA
