Honey Island Shooting Range M1 Garand Clinic and Fun Match! Memorial Day.

We're bringing back the M1 Garand Clinic. It's been several years since we've presented one and we've had some interest in bringing it back. Cost are $40 for CMP Affiliated Shooters and $50 for Non-members. Maximum number of registrants is 40.
This clinic covers all aspects of the M-1 Garand Rifle. The proper care, use and handling of the rifle will be discussed. Students can bring their own Garand or one will be provided. The clinic is followed by a 30 round "fun" match that allows the student to gain first hand experience firing this historic firearm.
Those that are interested can now download the application for the event here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/1eQANkjzxTP64D94ghnt0aXuOcyikidnt/edit?usp=docslist_api&filetype=msword
Applications must be LEGIBLE and mailed to the address stated on the 1st page.

My father is 84 and served from 1960 to 62. He always talks about his M1 and how much he misses shooting it.
I would buy two spots to do something fun with him for a day. Thanks!

Speaking of this I’ve been wanting to get my dad a Garand as it’s one of the guns he’s always talked about but never bought himself.
Anyone have any leads on a ww2 era Springfield in decent shooting condition?

Buy one from the CMP. You can get a service grade shooter for around $800, last I checked.

If you ever get a chance, go to the CMP facility in Talledega. They have an incredible place there. The shop has, or at least did when I went in September, a lot of service/rack grade Garands with an older fella there to school you on what you should be looking for. A younger baw was getting one while I was there, and the old guy was helping him look at what was available. You may want to call ahead of time, just to make sure they have some available.
To buy one you need to be a member of a CMP affiliate. One of the easiest ways is to join the GSSF, which is the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation. https://gssf.pro. If I remember correctly is is around $30 for a years membership.

Definitely go the CMP route if you aren't dead set on a WWII Springfield. The CMP is awesome to work with and a great organization to be a part of. Everybody should own a CMP M1 garand.
If you are dead set on a WWII Springfield, you should probably go to one of the cmp stores in person and shop there. Buying one is a bit of a process, but that's the only way you'll be able to put your eyes and hands on what you'd be buying. Ordering one is kind of a crapshoot, but the actual rifle that's delivered seems to very often exceed the quality of the description.
Ordering anything specific when it comes to a garand outside of CMP means big $$$ and more risk of getting a clapped out hunk of shite.

Doesn't the Louisiana Shooting Association still qualify also? Good to support homegrown groups that support our rights. Annual membership is only $15.

Holidays are even worse. I dont have one of those free until I retire.
In a few years when my kids are old enough to do this kinda thing and if they're interested we'll be going for sure. Everybody in my house will own an M1 whether they want to or not!
