Band at the high school level gets a lot of shite but those kids put in work.

More work than any of the athletic teams.

I can imagine college band is pretty similar.

Yes, marching around 8-to-5 at 120 BPM is taxing for a fat clarinet player.

I was in the drum line in high school, and 4 years in LSU drumline, and I can assure you this is not the case at all.

I was in marching band my freshmen year of Hs and will disagree.
We did two weeks during summer to prep the halftime show and fundamentals.
Then once August got here, we did 2 hours classroom practice each day. On top of that we did after school practice for two hours on Tuesday and Thursday. Then on Friday we had games. On saturdays we would usually travel for fall competitions. A lot of work but not nearly as physical as football players out in the heat running around.
