Just curious...is the PA for Pennsylvania? If so, what part?

Indeed it does. Born and raised in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

Have family out in the Eastern part of the state near Norristown; they live in Chesterbrook. I'm not really too familiar with the area though.

That footage of Tyson reaching for the mouthpiece is pretty crazy, that was pretty much the start of the downfall of his career/life. Glad to see he has been able to come back and from all accounts be a decent person since his career ended. Tysons sportscentury is pretty crazy to watch with how his life unfolded. Pretty sure it's free on youtube.

I was more shocked when Roy got dropped by Tarver.

I also have a fuzzy memory that Chris Jackson and Gerald Glass both went the frick off in an LSU/Ole Miss game the same night but I might be mistaken on it being the same night.

Tigers scored 119 in Knoxville that day

Tyson won.Buster was on the canvas for about 12 seconds but it was a super slow count.

I was in elementary school and didn’t watch the fight, but I distinctly remember some kids on the bus the next day talking about this.

One kid said the count was like, “one, two…you all right? Three four….you ok?”

D'Amato had died in '85 and Kevin Rooney

The 2 biggest reasons for his decline. Hard to stay on top though.

Douglas had also just lost his mother which I believed helped with his motivation.

It was surreal, couldn't believe it happened.

Many will disagree, but I believe if Tyson had sticked with Rooney instead of don king’s lackeys, he would’ve retired undefeated. He would’ve beaten Douglas, Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe if he remained in shape and motivated.

Definitely agree

He was not the same fighter after getting with don king, and lost most of his skill after the 4 year layoff due to prison

Most fighters weren't, Don King was a joke...

Does anybody think Tyson took a dive? I know that was a theory at the time.

I remember it taking forever to start. We were planning on going out but Tyson's fights usually lasted 30 seconds and we wanted to see the fury. As Buster kept going, they kept talking about his Mom and how he was motivated so you start pulling for the guy. Then slowly he just takes the fight over and u knew it could be possible... Then POWWWW. goodnight.
We never went out that night just kept the fight on in amazement

Anyone old enough to have played MTPO in the late ‘80s was shocked by it.

It was a huge upset that more people heard about than watched. I had a similar feeling when Arizona State beat the frick out of Nebraska in 1996 (at the height of their invincible aura) when the game ended at like midnight. Nadal losing to Soderling at the 2009 French Open after perhaps the most dominant performance in grand slam history at the 2008 French is another one.

A friend of mine and I watched the fight and it was a shock to see Tyson getting manhandled by Douglas, a 42-1 underdog.

Tyson was being managed/manipulated/robbed blind by Don King and his whole entourage after he walked away from the guys Cus D'Amato had in his corner.

He didn't train properly for that fight being such a favorite and knowing that Douglas was a few levels below him in skill based on his fight record at that time.

When Tyson knocked Douglas down late in the 8th with that big uppercut I thought the fight was over, but Douglas managed to just barely beat the count and the round ended.

Both fighter got hurt in the 9th with Douglas doing so to Tyson late in the round. Round 10 was when the magic happened for Douglas and he knocked Tyson out to win the belt.

Very next fight against Evander Holyfield saw Douglas lose the title.

My friend and I were both in shock since Tyson had always looked so invincible, and that was the start of the end of Tyson's career and losses started coming his way.

Shocked as far as I remember. No one outside of hardcore boxing world knew who Buster Douglas was. As far as I remember the fight was in Japan and everyone woke up on a sunday morning and heard the news that Tyson got knocked out.

At the time, Tyson had become a heel. Lol. Before Douglas floored him, Tyson had knocked Douglas out of the ring. For some reason the ref never picked up the correct count. I remember reading somewhere that from point of being knocked down to getting back in ring, 17 seconds ticked off.
After going with Don King, it was only a matter of time.

Picked up the paper out of the driveway that morning and couldn't believe it. I don't think many were that interested in the fight because everyone wrote off Buster Douglas.

His corner had no cold press. They were throwing tap water on his swells between rounds. It was the most disorganized and unprofessional corner I’ve ever seen in boxing. It could never happen today.

I lived in Baton Rouge and it was so shocking that it came across the tv like a weather emergency alert, stating Mike Tyson was just knocked out by Buster Douglas.

I was in college (damn I am old) and we took a road trip to Clemson from VT for the weekend.

My buddies friend rented the fight...probably 50 people in a room ready to watch Mike Tyson destroy another boxer. Probably on a 27 inch tv at most

And then it happened....total shock..

The next day driving back to VT, we just kept saying, have you heard...Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson...years later I sometimes wonder if it was real

Anyone who hasn't seen Tyson's Broadway show that aired on HBO years ago should watch it. Here's a clip from it where he talks about Douglas:

George Foreman was a beast of a man, and though not AS shocking, since he was fighting Ali, it was pretty shocking. Foreman was just so damned angry when he fought. Tyson was just a stone cold assassin o another level, but Foreman was the other level. Everyone else came below him.
