Yeah, the family likes alot of long (2 mi+) blue runs we will often traverse from the Canyons side to the Park City side. The morning may be some steeper and shorter runs but when we're together we usually opt for lifts with options for longer runs.

Skied six days at Heavenly (Tahoe) last week and now at Whistler.
Today was my first time on the mountain, and so far, I’m expecting it to get a lot better. A lot of people and ice everywhere. The challenge of skiing and learning a new mountain for the first time is compounded by the number of people, but mostly the ice.
I’ve been to Heavenly about 20 times and I really like the idea of skiing a mountain I feel like I know like the back of my hand. I like knowing where and how to ski based on the up to date totals, recent snow, daily weather, and time of day.
On my daily ski tracks report I almost put “poor day” and then remembered it’s never a poor day when you’re skiing.
Today was my first time on the mountain, and so far, I’m expecting it to get a lot better. A lot of people and ice everywhere. The challenge of skiing and learning a new mountain for the first time is compounded by the number of people, but mostly the ice.

Did two days boarding at Red River over the weekend. I haven't ridden a snowboard in over 20 years (I'm 50 and moved away from Colorado 20 years ago), so that was fun. 
Picked it right back up without problem and had a blast. A little sore today.
Red River isn't a big mountain, obviously, but I REALLY like the way the actual town butts right up against the ski hill. My wife could just drop us off right at the lift and walk 20 feet to get on. Then you could walk straight from the lift to restaurants/bars. It was very convenient and also got rid of the whole cookie cutter ski village thing that sort of drives me nuts about Colorado. It was a "crowded" weekend for them, but finding a place to park and eat and such was not a problem. Lift lines only got bad once right before lunch.
Anyway, it was fun to get back on a board. This was my son's 4th/5th days to snowboard, so I decided to go ahead and ride with him on this trip. He grudgingly admitted that I was "pretty good"

Yo...
Did four days with the kids @ Copper week after Christmas, great week of family skiing.
Bigger fun is heading to Nozawa Onsen in Japan mid March. Adding on a few days to a work trip. Second time there in two years. Good skiing, better town.
Little light on snow this year, but with Japan they can get a ton in a few days.
After a torn ACL in '21 I am 100% groomers in my old age.

Anyone know the closest place to the NOLA area to service skis (mount bindings, tune, wax, etc)?

I’d say Houston. I’ve done some searching in the past for my snowboard and ended up just buying a kit for myself and watching YouTube videos to learn how to do it. I’m sure I don’t do the best job but my board was definitely a bit faster after I did it. I didn’t notice any edge issues either although I was very conservative with my edge tuning. I didn’t want to really mess anything up. It’s not very hard, the worst part was dealing with the damn wax cleanup. I’m going to do it in the woods behind the house next time.

There's an REI in Huntsville that said they would do it but man I was REALLy hoping to find some dude out of his garage in like bay st louis

Probably won't ever happen, but the non-stop barrage of insane Japanese powder days in my instagram feed make me want to go there so badly.

probably wouldn't be much more expensive to hop on a southwest flight to denver one morning and come back the same night. And you would be getting someone that really knows what they are doing.

Babe, I need to go to Salt Lake this weekend to get my skis waxed so I'll ski some while I am there. And sorry, next weekend I need to go to Denver to get my skis waxed from my SLC trip so while I am there I'll probably....

Too many people on the mountain that shouldn’t be there. It’s too steep a place for so many amateurs.
Compound those Jerrys with the Epic Pass/Vail Resort frickery and you’ve got yourself a total shite show.
I’ve said it before in here, y’all can have Whistler.
Leave Revelstoke and Panorama alone for the rest of us.

Got back Monday night from SLC. In addition to looking at houses (no luck at all 
) and going to a work party, I got in 4 great days. Went to Solitude Friday with my friend who lives there. Snow was great even though it was close to 40 degrees and sunny. They had a nice week with 11" Wednesday night to Thursday. Spent most of the day in the woods off of Summit and Sunset.
Another sunny day at Brighton Saturday. My wife, who does greens and blues, was enjoying the top of the Snake Creek lift, so we spent a lot of time there. Really awesome tree runs on both sides of the two blue and green runs. I could spend a whole day there. We also found a run named "Ziggy" which is the name of a foster husky we have right now. Rode Great Western towards the end of the day. Might be the best views I've ever seen on the mountain. The peaks across the way are so close.
Sunday at Snowbird was my only full day (even though I didn't get there until 10
) Spent most of the day in the Gad Bowl and did a few runs in Mineral Basin. A fantastic day topped off by a 4:00 run through the creek off Peruvian. The snow was still pretty good but starting to get crusty.
Went back to Solitude Monday morning, the decided to take SolBright for the first time. Made it all the way to Great Western again and explored the Aspen groves until I had to leave. It was really crusty in there, but the good news was snow was falling and a big storm was on the way.
With that, my season is closed. Until next year...

Heading to ski in Utah for the first time St. Patty's weekend and read all this and looked at the pictures thinking it was all Park city peaks/areas. Didn't realize there was so much to do in Utah. I guess if we like Park city we'll look at giving these a try too in the future.
Wife and I loved skiing Whistler 10 or so years ago. The mountain was great, village was lacking in good food and drinks. Sorry to hear it might not be holding up?

PC is great, you will have fun. I much prefer the Canyons side, less crowded and cooler runs.

I hope to go back to Whistler one day and pray for clear skies and good snow. They have had a lot of rain there this season. Local said it rained for two weeks over Christmas all the way up to the peaks. They said that means next year will be epic.
Visibility was poor the rest of the week for four ski days with rain and clouds rolling through. Can’t tell you how many times I thought the trail was straight or turning and I mis-guessed it. Sometimes at the last second. I almost went over cliffs multiple times. Several would have had me falling 100s of yards down. Honestly, I was uncomfortable most of the time. There were a lot of small ascents that I couldn’t judge and would have to keep stopping at the top of them.
When I’m at Heavenly, I feel like I know every ascent, trail, most tree areas, etc. I live that feeling of always knowing what’s ahead of me. When I’m on a trail, I like to downhill ski and I could rarely do that comfortably at Whistler.

I’ve been all over Whistler. There’s nothing at Whistler that you can’t get at Revelstoke or Panorama BC.
What you can get at Whistler is marginal (at best) snow conditions from mid mountain down, tons of Epic pass holders that can’t ski and a bevy of tourists who are only there to been seen at the base shopping.
Here’s the Gondola between Whistler Blackcomb. This particular one has a see through floor:
Whistler is still stuck in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. The Olympic Rings are still up on the mountain.
Hey guys, it’s been almost fifteen years since y’all hosted the Olympics. Take the rings down and build more trails.

I am sure that revenue pales in comparison to ski season, but Whistler is pretty much the Mecca of downhill MtB parks. Not sure if that takes away their energy/focus for development for winter activities.
