I’m pretty familiar with the football portal but not so much on the baseball portal.

What is the time most transfers happen?

What is the cutoff for someone to transfer and then play that year?

Just curious and I know several on this site have good insight.

I’m not super up to date on the baseball calendar but I’d imagine now that the season is wrapped up, you’ll see a bunch of guys hit the portal.

Finding portal info for baseball is difficult for me. Does anyone have any links to a non-pay site that has actual portal information similar to what is readily available for football and basketball?

They really wanted Woods. They must think he has a lot of potential.

I was hoping the West Virginia sophomore 2B who was first team All-American and POY in the Big 12 would jump in the portal, but looks like he signed a deal with the NIL collective of the Mountaineers.

College baseball's transfer portal opened May 30 and the deadline to enter is July 13. Like its football counterpart, there are exceptions for graduate transfers.

Like you said most of the movement will be in the next week or two and I expect to see a few more star players come to LSU after what just happened. Even if we would have lost, I still expected to see lots of star power coming. There is a pitcher similar to Skenes numbers (while at AF) again likely to transfer and you have to believe LSU has a huge advantage there. Then there is the Wake left fielder and the Tennessee pitcher. I’d skip the other Wake player, who was doing weird things in the locker room. Don’t need that on this team. Plus I think we’d be fine without any transfers. This team will be really good next year as is.

The MLB draft is July 9-11. Portal closes on July 13 (to enter).

July 12 and July 13 should be a lot of activity once teams know who is returning based on their draft position.

For clarification, any portal window, for any sport, is simply a window where if you entered the portal during those dates, you can rescind your portal declaration and return to your school.

If you declare outside of the dates of the portal windows, you have to leave. So, any athlete can leave at anytime (pre-season, mid-season, post-season), and transfer signings to new schools can still happen outside the windows.

Woods had a 5.39 Era as a reliever I believe.

I haven't seen him pitch. I know he is from Louisiana.

I think you will see lsu add 2 more top guys at pitcher

Woods was 4-1 with one save and a 5.52 ERA in 17 relief appearances in 2023, including two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. In 29 1/3 innings on the bump, Woods allowed 23 hits, walked 15 and struck out 38 batters during his time with the Crimson Tide.

This is a little more detail into his numbers. Not bad at all for a freshman. Hopefully we land the next best pitching coach (somewhat young innovative) like a younger version of Wes Johnson. That would be the best case scenario imo. I’d definitely implement his technology regimen, where he shows the pitchers everything with the slow motion cameras at different angles. Then they make adjustments until they get it perfect. He can’t be the only pitching coach doing this type of thing.

Also adjusting the grip on the ball in the offseason so they can throw their breaking ball with different angle of break to it. Find what’s most comfortable for them and what allows them to throw that pitch with more conviction. You can have one pitch, like a slider that looks like 2 different pitches.

They all need to work on their change up too. I’m not sure if this is accurate but it sure seems like Wes worked really hard on their best stuff, most comfortable pitches and made that work but stayed away from creating a new pitch or working with their change up. So now with another year, they can work on that change up as well as perfecting their good stuff more so. I’m excited to see who ends up here this offseason, players and any coaches we get.

We would have to pull off a crazy transfer class and land a phenomenal pitching coach but this team could do the unthinkable and go back to back!!! Wouldn’t that be a huge statement!!! Well, let’s make it happen!

Any chance we get the pitcher from Nichols state? Don’t even know if he is in the portal but seems like he would want to step up to lsu.

Yet…..

Kid was just named National Freshman Pitcher of the year. 0% chance he stays at Nicholls and passes up NIL money from a major university.

Kid grew up in Gonzales. My bet is he’s waiting to see how all the coaching changes shake out before he jumps in.
