Currently I use a Feather DE safety razor I was given as a gift. The prep to shave is a bit longer than with a cartridge razor, as is the shaving process since you have to take your time to get a good shave. However, it is a SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable shave than with a cartridge razor. The multi-blade razors "pull" your hair while you are shaving. And more blades = more discomfort. They will still give you a close shave. But you don't realize how much they pull until you use a DE blade.
When I did use cartridge blades I used the Schick Hydro 3. Actually, to save costs I used the generic Hydro 3 blades you could buy for cheaper at Walmart, Target. Same exact blade as the Schick brand name. Just $4-$7 cheaper per box. They also were made to fit a Mach 3 handle. The best thing about the Schick Hydro blades is they were very well lubricated. So much so that the first few shaves with a new cartridge were kind of "goopy". Still, of all the cartridge blades I used it was the most comfortable with the closest shave. If I ever had to go back to a cartridge blade that would be it.
In NO circumstances would I ever use a five blade razor. That is NOTHING but marketing overkill, and they provide a terribly uncomfortable shave. 3 blades are really too many as well. But at least they aren't five blades. I tried Harry's once and found them to be the most uncomfortable razor I've every used in my entire life. After 4 shaves I was done!

I have exact opposite opinion than you about Harry's. They are pretty comfortable, to me.
But, I share your opinion of multi-bladed razors. 3 is better than 5. 1 is probably better than 3 but the razor I use has 3 blades. It's always difficult getting the sideburns properly shaped using a razor with multiple blades.
