If you’re going to call something a “Coming of Age Party” then the ONLY appropriate gift has to be a hooker.

One of my uncles got all of his nieces and nephews a very nice set of luggage when they graduated high school. Mine was a victorinox/Swiss army suitcase and carryon bag.

Seemed odd when I was 18, but it was certainly the best/most useful of all the graduation gifts looking back.

Isn’t the coming of age party basically the common “graduation party”?

When you graduate high school I thought a lot of people did something that celebrated the life of the “kid” and symbolized leaving the house (college).

Man, I got gyped!!

All I got was money to buy a 12 pack and told not to call home if I went to jail. And still had to be home by curfew!

A happy death by Albert Camus. It’s a book every young man should read.

When I left the assembly center on May 22, 1985 (graduation of HS), I drove home and ate dinner with my mom and dad like nothing ever happened. There were no cake, no balloons, or presents. No party with friends or relatives. It was a normal day.

My parents expected my siblings to graduate high school. I don’t even know where my HS diploma resides.

So right. Actually this is what I suggest for gift ideas for my kid with family. And my 15 year old gets stock from me at BDay.

Please God tell me you are kidding! I thought the gender reveals were the most ridiculous thing.

Biggest mistake he will probably make in his young life. I take it he is not independent of the family funding and doesnt plan to be anytime soon...

Perplexing, most of these posters want to complain about kids now a days, and think this gathering is stupid, but this is exactly what we need. Up until recently, these are the types of relationships we have had for millennia, a multigenerational intrasex community. Young men looking up to their fathers and elders as examples, now they are raised by their peers and media. This is new and the definition of dysfunction. How is this seen as abnormal, new, or even effeminate.

Is this some foreign custom? This sounds as dumb as the “period parties” for girls.
