You always want to stay in good grace with people. You never know when you will cross paths in the future, but on the other hand, you have to consider what they would do in your position. Let them know you found a new job and you have to start immediately.

Give them some bullshite about how up until last night you were not going to take the job because you wanted to at least be able to put in your 2 weeks, but its an opportunity you just can't pass up.

Started a new job on Monday after giving a 6 week notice. I do not recommend it, but my new employer said they appreciated how I left my old company. Its just incredibly hard to stay motivated for 6 weeks knowing you are out the door.

f you had the option to start a new job immediately after background checks and drug screen was confirmed for double your current salary would you put in a 2 wks notice? That would be a lot of salary lost just to be nice.

Never, ever burn bridges. Do it the right way with 2 weeks. Word spreads about how you handled your business when you do it the wrong way. They may dismiss you on the spot anyway.

Most companies provide a severance from my experience. Usually 2 weeks per year of service

Wow. Way to value yourself and the service you provide.

As someone said before, "If you want to burn the bridge with that company, give the two weeks". If not, I'd explain the situation to your supervisor and upper-level management. You don't want them to get hired somewhere else and hold it against you at their new company.

HR can kick rocks... They're "supposed" to be unemotional and by the books with any company, they currently work for. If they move on and you're eligible/qualified for their new company, it shouldn't be considered. Good luck though.

He got some severance not sure how much. He had only been here a year or two. Last time I spoke with him he had got a better job than what he had so it worked out for him.

If I was to leave my position now I would give 2 weeks notice. I was just saying some people/companies get bent out of shape if you don’t give them 2 weeks notice but some would turn around and not feel bad if they were to cut your job immediately.

Plus how much productivity is that person going to give in the last 2 weeks.
Last guy that offered here we just said no thanks.

2 Week Notice When Leaving Job

2 weeks notice only applies to having jobs with severance packages and benefits

any other jobs its just being nice if you like working there and want to leave on a good note.

last time i gave 2 weeks notice they told me no, and get my shite and get out, because they didnt want anyone around that might not be giving 100%

i guess it makes sense, but i never give less than my all, since i take pride in my work, and my reputation as a good worker

I couldn't imagine having such a lack of confidence to think that my employer is doing me a favor by employing me.

No notice tells your new employer you'll jump ship in a skinny minute for more dinero.

If you manage people, would you expect an employee to stay working for you if they were offered 2x their salary? I know I wouldn't.

I never ever understood why employees have to give a two week notice when employers can easily let you go without a two week notice. It doesn't at all my sense to me. In the end, you're just another number to a company so I say frick em.

When I switched jobs in 2016, my new boss demanded I leave the existing company and relocate immediately.

When I left that company in 2019, I put in 2 weeks, then on my last day that same boss belittled me in front of everyone for abandoning “the family” with insufficient notice.

That same boss also made me fire 3 people with no notice for very flimsy reasons.

Not replying to you specifically, but I don’t agree with “never burn a bridge”. It might only be 1/100 times, but some should be burned

In all fairness, you've never seen someone volunteer to give an employer a severance package either. You've never given an employer some paid time off or helped pay for its health insurance. You never matched its retirement savings either.

Just give two weeks tell them you going work for competition and they will likely let you go and still have to pay the two weeks.

yes, give notice. You won't be burning bridges and shows professionalism. In hiring people (which I did today) I much prefer them to give their current employer notice. If they do that for them, then they will likely do the same for us.
