I had one of the CarPlay screens on an arm attached to the top of my dash, like the old gps devices used to in my old 2014 Mazda 3. I chose that option as I hadn’t had CarPlay before and didn’t want to spend the money on an aftermarket installation solution without knowing if I would like it.
The one I had was some dropshipped Chinese brand that I bought for $100. It was fine and the Wireless CarPlay was astonishingly reliable. Audio sucked, but I was mostly listening to podcasts and audiobooks anyway.
