Rarely. Never.
There were times we were out of town, maybe a sports tournament, or vacation. But other than that, my parents cooked every night, and we ate together.

Probably three or four times a year at a real sit down restaurant. Another handful of times at fast food type joints. Almost every meal was eaten at home.
I still try to employ this money saving strategy. I treat eating out as a treat and don't over do it. We might eat out know once a month.

This is how I grew up, also. I’d be interested to know what percentage of American households this still occurs in. I’d guess <5%.
