Appreciate the history lesson, very interesting. Just stopped by wiki to read a little about the AVG--fascinating story, especially the part which you referenced about them forming and training in China almost a year before Pearl Harbor. Thought the following was interesting as well:

The AVG was created by an executive order of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek. He did not speak English, however, and Chennault never learned to speak Chinese. As a result, all communications between the two men were routed through Soong Mei-ling, "Madame Chiang" as she was known to Americans, and she was designated the group's "honorary commander."

Yeah. The AFG was a very interesting chapter in WWII history.
