Coming from a small town with leftover "agricultural" families I understand several of the previous posts and would bet the OP grew up in a similar place. Hard not to let Aunt Jemima get a spin with a fresh baby in your hometown.

As we were walking in the store I heard a few of the cashiers make a comment about the baby. Went to checkout and the first girl standing at the end waiting for customers says, "he's adorable, can I hold him?"

She clearly was kind so I said sure. She held him while making small talk and ringing up the groceries. Manager, older black lady, was watching while smiling as well.

Son was eating it up He was smiling and touching the side of her face laughing every time she'd cut her eyes over.

He's going to be a handful later on that's for sure
