Jayden's numbers are undeniably great, but the 2 seasons are distinguishable by two facts: (1) 2019 was 8-0 and I think they had only trailed one quarter at that point, and (2) LSU had already beaten three top-10 teams at that point. 2019 was just on a different level.

We did get UF and Auburn at home...the 2 teams that probably did the best against us defensively except UGA in SEC title game.

Mizzou and OM are pretty comparable and on the road. FSU is better than any of the 3 top 10 teams we played in 2019.

Could we be QBU? Certainly seems like Daniels has the NFL tools.

Nuss needs to keep the streak going!

I was there after Chase caught the touchdown. I knew we would smack down Bama and the year was ours. It was the moment when I knew we had the better team.

My father-in-law and I looked at each other and said holy-e-shat, we gonna beat these guys finally. Chase on the first drive down right abused the Bama defense. People forget we had not scored on Alabama in any meaningful way in years.

You should list how many quarters each played through those 8 games. I recall we pulled Joe in a few games.

he played into the second half of every game. JD is the only one not to play in the second half.

Also JB has more attempts.
Daniels did not play the 2nd half against Grambling or Army.

Burrow played the first series of the 2nd half against Georgia Southern in 2019, led the team to a FG to go up 45-3.
Burrow played 3 series against Northwestern State, 3 TDs. (1 passing, 1 rushing for him)
Burrow played 4 series against Utah State, 3 TDs (all 3 passing TDs for Burrow) and a fumble to end a drive.

Against Vanderbilt, he got 4 series in the 2nd half, got 2 passing TDs in a game we were up 38-17 at the half.

A&M game, which we won 50-7, he got 4 series in the second half, got 2 passing TDs.

One of those Top 10 teams was Texas, who was ranked #9 when we played them. They finished 7-5, with 4 conference losses.

That's not the "gotcha" people think it was.

Why do people keep saying this? Florida State is not that good. I wish it weren’t so but all of college football is down. Did you watch the Penn St vs Ohio St disaster? USC? Teams are just not very good anymore with all the money flowing to college kids and being able to go wherever if it doesn’t work out has lead to a shitty product on the field. Florida State played us in the first game of the year. They struggled to beat Boston College, a terrible Clemson team, and Duke. Daniels has improved for sure and deserves national consideration but he’s not Burrow. I don’t care what the stats show.

The 2019 LSU defense was on a whole different level than this defense. It had NFL players at every level and even though the stats weren’t great, that was, to me, somewhat a product of the fact we were blowing out so many teams and the focus wasn’t always there. But if there is to be any legit discussion of JD and Joe’s seasons and how they compare, let’s wait and see
How JD does against Bama. Remember Joe came out and went 17 for his first 17 passes. Just as big time as it gets. Hopefully JD does something similar.

The thing about Daniels for me is, I cant help but feel he has a higher ceiling. As good as he is, it feels like he can get even better - which is crazy.

I never felt that way about Burrow. His 2019 performance always seemed perfected.

aree you saying they aren't better than 2019 8-5 Texas team? Because that is what I am saying. My comment was in reference to we played 3 top 10 teams at this point in 2019. We played UF & Auburn at home which to me is the equivelent to playing Mizzou and OM on the road and FSU at a neutral site which is better than 8-5 Texas.

2023 FSU is the best team LSU has played out of the 16 games being discussed in this thread.

This doesn't make any damn sense.

That works both ways. Top teams can increase their talent level by getting kids that have developed after high school. Just b/c the top 10 doesn't look like it did 5 years ago doesn't mean college football is down. You could make the exact opposite argument. Most of the top Heisman candidates are transfers. Daniels, Nix, Penix, Travis, Gabriel, etc are all players who are better off where they are today than where they started. How can anyone say "Teams are just not very good anymore"?

At week 8 lsu had played the 7 and 11 teams.

Texas was no longer ranked.

As of week 8 lsu has played the number 4 number 12 and number 16 teams

When LSU beat Texas in 2019, I knew nothing was going to beat them the rest of the year. That entire team shifted into another gear, not just Joe Burrow.
