This has to be at least partially correct. I’m no longer amazed to park in no man’s land of big box store and come back to my car and see that somebody parked right beside me in the sea of open spaces. It’s too common of a phenomenon to be solely chalked up to a holes.

There may be people who are incapable of parking between the lines unless there's another vehicle to line up next to.
