Public unions are trash. And striking during the middle of school is chickenshit.

Union leaders say teachers need large raises to keep pace with inflation, class size limits to allow them to meet students’ academic and emotional needs in the wake of the pandemic and more planning time to adjust instruction to widely varying achievement levels.
No Oxford comma. What swine.

So does every non government worker in America.
And they have pensions.

In Portland Public Schools, 56% of elementary students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 45% tested at or above that level for math. Also, 56% of middle school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 45% tested at or above that level for math. And 62% of high school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 32% tested at or above that level for math
This is terrifying. basically 70% of those kids leave high school not knowing high school math. Welcome to a life of not knowing why a high interest rate is bad.
These teachers will have no issues going to a 4 day school week either in the face of these numbers. Really is a shame what is happening in education these days. I doubt it will ever seriously get addressed either because there is just too much money to be made with ignorance.

Not as bad as I expected. Better than Pittsburgh or Detroit.
Portland is 74% white 9% Asian. Even with crazy green haired teachers the test scores are always going to be better than Detroit

Seems like being a Portland teacher would be super easy. No worries about academic learning, just offer a bunch of woke speak to the students everyday and go home at 3 PM
Pretty much

Since most of them voted for this inflation, why would they complain?

They voted for inflation so naturally they need more money. See how this works.

You are correct. Failing public schools is a pandemic across the United States, especially in areas with high population density.
Was this a gotcha or are you trying to bring attention to the pattern of wasted time and resources while we fall further behind the rest of the first world in math, science, and reading?
