FCS is about to demonstrate - once again - why a 12 team playoff is absurd. No matter how they've changed the FCS playoff, once TV coverage expanded and the internet came along, it got easier and easier to evaluate teams. The seed of the eventual winner has gotten lower over time.
In the last 14 years, the highest seed to win is 5. Happened once. In 11 of the last 14 years the winner was seeded either #1 or #2.
Despite all the teams and all the rounds, #1 or #2 comes out on top 79% of the time and 13 of 14 are from the top 4, that's 93% of the time. In the past 12 years, every champion came from a top 4 seed.
The idea of a 12 team playoff in FBS is absurd. It's even easier to evaluate teams in FBS because of more exposure.

While I can see where you’re going with this argument, I think it ignores the fact that the VAST majority of those titles were won by a single school. That kind of dominance hasn’t ever been seen in FBS. But I still suspect that the top teams in FBS will win those first round games most of the time.
