Was discussing this with a friend today & I decided to do a little research.

My first question was, I wonder what kind of numbers Chase, Jefferson & Marshall put up in 2018?

Chase - 23 rec, 313 yds, 3 TDs
JJ - 54 rec, 875 yds, 6 TDs
TM - 12 rec, 192 yds, 0 TDs
(All in 13 games)

We all know how that turned out in 2019! LOL! My friend suggested I look at what Nabers did in 2021, when Boutte was our WR1.

MN - 28 rec, 359 yds, 2 TDs
(11 games, & this was 4th on the team)

Also BTJ last year:
BTJ - 31 rec, 361 yds, 5 TDs
(13 games)

This year, Lacy has put up:

KL - 24 rec, 463 yds, 7 TDs!
(12 games)

From what he did on the field, he just needs to clean up the drops, otherwise he has the size & talent to be our next WR1. The stats certainly support that the jump from what he put up this year to a 1,000+ yds & 10+ TDs "go to" guy is not unprecedented from the recent past.

I'd contend that he did better this year (and still has the bowl game where he may be the go to guy for a good part of the game) than Chase & Nabers did the years prior to them becoming WR1. I think both the stats & what we saw on the field show that is within reason. I also however agree with Hunt where he said earlier this week that we need to get an experienced guy from the portal to join a WR room loaded with talent, but inexperienced.

I am rooting for Lacy to be "that guy" next year & sure hope another guy or two can step up if he can't make that jump.

Would love for him to step up next year. The drops at key moments this year were concerning. Go back to the “Joe Brady” off-season program. 1,000 catches a day on the jugs machine.

I doubt it. He’s a solid #2. We should get at least one elite guy from the portal if possible.

He absolutely can. He reminds me of Jefferson with his route running. The TD against A&M was very Jefferson-esque.

Lacy can be dynamic. Get stronger and improve ball security and catching. He’s strong after the catch and has good vision once the balls in his hands. Has to fix his drops which I think he can with a lot of work

Lacy will step up and dominate. Look at his attitude. He never quit. Look at how much he cared about the penalty that took away Malik’s record. That’s a good dude that deserves our support. He frustrated me this year, but he kept working and fighting. I think he has a breakthrough year next year and I’m ready to ride with Kyren Lacy based on attitude alone. He already has the talent.

I’d tell you to ask him personally but he’s really hard to get a hold of, calls keep dropping.

Great work on that write up. He is a beast after the catch as well. True breakaway speed once he gets in stride.

He’s considering going pro so I wouldn’t exactly guarantee him to be back

he’s a good #2 to me. i want to see someone on the team make a big jump or a big time transfer. There’s no way we don’t already have plenty of rayon the roster though. i think Chris Hilton is set up for a big year as the speed threat WR3.

He’ll start as the #1 receiver, but he won't end the year as the #1 receiver.
