Wow! The money that goes out is crazy. If you live in EBR, take a look at the breakdown you received. Might need to start riding the bus and work for the assessor. Working for EBR school district might not be a bad gig either.

Got mine yesterday. 1/3 of my property tax goes to EBR schools.
Hard to complain when 4 millages for EBRPSS were up for renewal in March and only 14% of EBR voters showed up.

Yep. Every new tax is up for you to be able to vote on.
Unless you vote at all those ridiculous elections in a random month for school bonds, then you're part of the problem.

I just love seeing how much I pay for shite shows like EBR schools and CATS.

CATS tax must only be for those in city limits because I don’t pay CATS.
St. George Fire district gets the 2nd most from my taxes. I believe that was also just up for renewal…easily passed

That's all hidden in 99% of peoples mortgage payments and they don't realize it. I bought my last house for cash, and like a complete dummy, didn't even think about taxes. Dec 1 rolled around and I got the notice from the Sheriff saying to cough up $4500 by the end of the month. Caught me completely off guard.

We opted out since our kids go to private school. Still pay more for tuition but it definitely helps.

That seems low. In the county I live (GA) about 2/3 goes to the schools. The other third is to parks, bond, police, fire.
Where does the 2/3 of your non-school property tax go?

there were like 3 duplicate line items on mine and some of those simply said EBR Special
WTF
I tallied over $1,400 of my assessment as objectively suspect

Maybe I need more coffee or this is simply a dumb question, but would higher turnout necessarily mean more nonsense millage increases would get voted down? I’d think that the small percentage of people that show up wouldn’t be more or less likely to vote for or against.

I wish this were an option. I pay tuition as well.

Yea this year’s bill didn’t break it all down like previous years. Those “EBR special ….” is for Law Enforcement.

Not necessarily. New taxes & renewals pass all the fricking time here, even on the big ballot elections. But when there’s random election in March with not much to vote on except tax renewals, not many people bother to show up. The election this past March had 4 EBRPSS renewals, mostly dealing with teacher salaries, etc. and 14% of voters showed up…probably all teachers and their families.

Wish we could pass a law that tax proposals can only come up when there is a state wide election (governor/SoS/Treas, ect) or federal election (House/Senate/President)
that way they dont sneak through tax increases.....

The BREC and CATS taxes are a crime against humanity.
BREC has the largest land ownership of any park commission in the US.

Kudos to whomever came up with that.
Nothing more EBR than getting hit with EBR Special on your property tax bill.

They need to have yearly elections.
All tax issues and amendments should be voted on in October. Runoff’s would be in November. The only exception would be the election of the President.
