Not even a little...at that point I have a choice to leave or stay.

How so?

That's funny because I can tell you the exact last time that I had truly exceptional service....it was many moons ago.

Maybe consider channeling your energy into the company you’re with and just relax.

....not sure how this has any bearing on anything.

Who doesn't....you can pretty much tell how the service is by the ratio of people sitting twiddling their thumbs to the amount of people actually getting served by doing so. 95% of people don't just sit there without at least ordering something to drink as soon as they can. You surely have to account for maybe a few people that may be just sitting after they are done, but that doesn't happen too often. I've only started doing this myself since places are claiming to be "understaffed" which could also equate to "lazily staffed".

So you tip higher when it’s cheap and justify lower when more expensive. Move along.

So let me get this straight, you think that a flat rate will lead to better service?

I mean, most people opting to dine at a table and be waited on aren't fretting over a few dollars and just throw 20% down on the total and call it a day.

It certainly used to be cut and dry like this....not in today's world.

Then you're going to get worse service and complain even more

Of course not...but it solves the tipping problem. It's clear that bad service is here to stay no matter what...especially at every day restaurants.

You realize you can still tip on top if you get good service.

Even still bad service is currently a fact of life and it solves the tipping issue...maybe servers will actually do better at their job since they will actually be making more money in some cases.

I never understood the tip being a percentage of your bill. If I order a steak, or if I order chicken that's half the price, they both require the same amount of steps to my table. Why should I have to pay more in tip?

Maybe its a reflection of you being a cocksucker.

Your second post in the thread you're saying you get eyes rolled at you weekly for your tip. Where are you eating that they're opening up the bill in front of you to roll their eyes at you? Every place I go the bill sits at the table closed until I get up and leave.

Why do people who hate tipping go out to eat? This has been our system forever.

If everywhere you go it smells like shite, maybe it's time to check your shoes.

You are more concerned by how some kid is going to perform serving you food than you are with enjoying the company of the person you're out with. You are focusing on the wrong thing.

If tipping is such a burden on you emotionally and financially that you're walking in the door creating scenarios to justify your tipping behavior, why go out to sit down restaurants at all? It sounds unenjoyable and taxing.

Because the system needs to change. Good service warrants a tip, entitled does not. Went to local BR Italian eatery on Friday and the waiter filled in the tip line at 20% when he brought my check back. I would have done that much or more, but a bit presumptuous on his part.
