I know that they are now owned by Utz Brands out of Pennsylvania - but could not find a reliable source to indicate if they are still made in Gramercy or not

To my knowledge, they are not, but I cannot confirm. I pass by the building often and I don’t see any activity.

Ditto

The only thing I found online was on Wikipedia and it states "Zapp's operates as a wholly owned subsidiary, it no longer manufactures at the Gramercy plant"

Had some Zapps yesterday. My wife and I found clumps of chips, as many as 10-12 chips in a "ball". There were about 6 or 7 of these big clumps.

Guess their quality control is lacking.

Chips were a bit greasy, too.

(These were no salt chips.)

They have gone down hill quickly since Utz took over. To me, they are extremely greasy and do not taste the same.

Exactly how Willie Wonka starts.

I assume soon the factory will burst forth with flavors and chips galore

Agreed. Crawtaters are so inconsistent. Some bags have no spice at all. Had a bag a few months ago and they were the Voodoo chips in the wrong bag.

Yuuup, I bought a family size bag of Crawtators for Christmas party at work. About 1/3 full, rest air, and very little seasoning… tasted bland with no spice.

I thought they moved production to the Golden Flake factory in Alabama, but it looks like that shut down too.

UTZ looking like a real pos company. Buying local/regional brands and shutting down the factories resulting in massive layoffs and lower quality.

Did a little more quick digging. Ida apparently wrecked the Gramercy Facility. They're selling both the Gramercy and former Golden Flake facilities in the next year.

Didn't realize that about ida, but that makes sense. I Wonder if they now manufacturer Zapps in Pennsylvania?

I went there before Covid and they were still making them there. There was several other Utz Brands in the warehouse section but I don’t know if those were made there. As of right now I couldn’t tell you.

Nope. Drive past the old plant everyday, they are shuttered. You can smell it when you drive by if they run again.

In general, Utz-brand chips are quite good. Sorry to hear they are having problems maintaining Zapp's quality. I got some Golden Flake Sweet Heat chips the other day and they tasted fine.

Regular Utz are cooked in cottonseed oil. The kettle fried Utz are cooked in peanut oil. The Grandma Utz brand is cooked in lard.

The Golden Flake hot flavored chips haven't seemed as hot the last few times I've gotten them.
