They went out of a window when the water was rapidly rising. Tried to get on the roof, but were unable. He and his son washed into some trees and were able to hold on. If there is any takeaway from this thread it’s that if you live in a coastal zone, particularly if you have children or the elderly with you, there is absolutely positively no reason to stick around for a major (cat3 or above) hurricane.

Your actions will at best cause a major inconvenience to those you love and those who will be responding to the storm.

More likely it will cause a traumatic life event they will never forget and which might lead to PTSD.

At worst you will get people you love killed.

Just pack your stuff and go.
