well you ain't gonna throw the frickin ball man, come on it was 3rd and 5, maybe he breaks one and ends the game why are yall acting like this isn't how every football game ends?

I never said to throw it. I said running into a stacked box there and fumbling or a player getting hurt/penalty is a higher probability than Texas driving the ball 90 yards in 15 seconds.

And maybe he fumbles and Texas scoops and scores.

Just because it’s the way coaches do it doesn’t mean statistically it’s the right play

Indeed. But still a risk of injury or penalty.

He didn’t have to get off the field. Washington was just going to stand around, let the play clock roll down and either take a delay or call a time out with 1 second left on the play clock.

Ok , then lineman could have picked him up and stood around

I don't understand why the clock doesn't start once the injured player is off the field. That is a massive advantage to the opposing team

Or maybe he picks up 5 yards and a first down. It has happened before.

right

he got 18 yards on 3rd and 9 to close out Oregon in the PAC12 title game

they didn't have to punt back to them, which is good, since they had just scored in 2 plays

people acting like this is some blunder are blowing my mind, the blunder is a rule that allows an injured player to give your opponent an extra 40 seconds of time

They haven’t been able to run all night, but running into a loaded box when everyone knows you’re running was the time he breaks one. The guy had 21 carries for 49 yards

especially because now that this played out what the OP is saying isn’t even that unreasonable

forcing injured players to run off the field or their teammates to grab them and drag them off the field asap shouldn’t be encouraged or part of a “strategy” but I guess here we are

Congrats on your high school bullshite that nobody gives a frick about. Now go sit in a bar with Al Bundy to reminisce and get the frick off the MSB

If the coach takes three knees, Texas has 15 seconds to go the length of the field. Running those plays brings things like an injury into play. Coach can blame himself for that unnecessary risk that almost screwed them

I swear every week I read comments from groups of people that appear as though they watched their first football game that week.

In a high stakes win or go home scenario every single coach from Pop Warner to the NFL will be running the ball three times with their best available run personnel on the field. You worry about injuries when, even players already dinged, in garbage time like McDaniel should have protected Chubb. You don't give up the chance to finish the game with the ball in your hands by kneeling out concerned about an injury that might happen once in an entire game. Kneeling in the situation is the kind of thing that puts a coach on the hot seat.

People saying to kneel are crazy. 3 knees and they are punting with 20 seconds. Still time. A few handoffs are very low risk too.

I'm amazed this is even a conversation. No one does that. Maybe if you leave Texas with enough time on the clock for just one play, which wasn't the case here.

The frick ups were the pass the series before the onside kick, and having that RB in the game considering he had been in pain the whole time.

I think Washington was charged a TO

They weren’t. They had two on the play when the RB was injured and called both of them on Texas’s final drive

Why didn’t the OL pick him up and carry him to the sideline

It was such a rare situation that you would really have to have heads up players to make it work, but if they could even have stood him up on the field, let the play clock run out, then get him off, that would have worked as well, although I’m not sure if they’re allowed to support him or not.

Who gives a frick? Torn acl broke leg doesn’t matter. Team over individual. His selfish weak self worried about his fragile body almost cost the TEAM a title shot. If you have to walk off on a broken leg that keeps you in a boot for a couple more months so be it. Pain is temporary victory is forever!
