Sark/Kiffin , Deboer, Marcus Freeman, Norvell… anybody else then Byrne is taking a risk … they are all risks compared to Saban I guess

With all these names being bandied around, I wouldn't be shocked to hear that Bama was trying to get Jerry Stovall out of retirement.

There are no “whales” after you’ve had Saban…

Sark, but he’ll just use this situation to get a nice fat raise from Texas.

The whale retired.

No one is going to be at his level, not even at his current age.

The only inarguably elite coach left in CFB is Kirby.

After that its probably Harbaugh but he has the scandal hanging over his head, interviews for the NFL every year, is possibly on the spectrum and would never leave UM for another college job.

So then you're left with a bunch of really good coaches who you can argue reasonably about what order they should be in, all of whom have questions:
-Sark: 1 conf championship, lot of mediocre years before that
-DeBoer: out west ties, never recruited at an elite level
-Lanning: young, no conference championships
-Kelly: no conference championships
-Kiffin: Joey Freshwater, doesnt love to recruit
-Klieman: system guy, never coached at a big time school
-Dabo: Wont deal with the portal/NIL

All of those guys can win a championship at the right school, but any of them could fail at a job like Bama as well due to the expectations, questions and the madness that is NIL era CFB.

I honestly think Brian Kelly is the safest coach in cfb . You know without a doubt you will win ten games every season. You just aren’t positive how much beyond that. Personally I just don’t think it’s ever come together at the right place for him before lsu and this season he happened to have a defense that made a championship impossible .

Bama could do a lot worse than Kelly and they would have in it every year

I don’t mean this as a shot at LSU, but I don’t think the fans were realistic about how bad that roster was he inherited from O and because of the Bama win it was glossed over.

It wasn’t even just the year one starters who in many cases wouldn’t have seen the field for past LSU teams, it was the blackhole from a depth perspective behind them and the utter lack of defensive talent to work with.

That was the worst LSU defense I’ve ever seen and it wasn’t just House (who admittedly wasn’t great). They were untalented, young and lacked depth.

I thought Kelly did an incredible job evolving the team into some B12 type “it’s ok if you score 40 because we are gonna score 50” team because he’s never in his career done that.

He also took what I thought was a mid tier at best QB in Daniels and won him a Heisman, that’s development most coaches aren’t capable of.
