He still did it with his NAIA school and players against other NAIA schools and players, and worked his way up in the process.

NAIA is more comparable to D2 football than anything else. Before NIL, NAIA could give athletic scholarships and had fewer academic restrictions (for reference, only D1 and D2 can provide athletic scholarships in NCAA). NAIA schools compete with the D2 schools for kids out of HS. They’ll also get D1 kids with academic issues, HS nonqualifiers, and JUCO kids who don’t go D1.

At the end of the day, this guy has won everywhere he’s been and there’s typically something to that.

This will tell the a lot of the story. What kind of program does Sioux Falls have before and after DeBoer? Any built in advantages vs other naia? Some naia schools will give unlimited scholarships to build a football team, but most give unlimited partial football scholarships to increase enrollment at the school and bring in tuition money.
