LHSAA Wrestling’s Louisiana Classic gets the Facebook Mom treatment

If you’ve ever been a competitor OR have a child who competes PLEASE READ & SHARE!
You don’t have to know anything about wrestling to know what happened to our high school kids today at the 51st Louisiana Classic was HEARTBREAKING and the PERSON responsible for it should be ASHAMED of himself!!!
This weekend 54 teams entered their BEST wrestlers in the 14 weight divisions! It’s an INVITE ONLY tournament and we look at it as our “TRUE” Louisiana STATE because the kids are bracketed based on weight NOT the division of their school! There are kids who work years towards winning “Louisiana Classic” because it’s by far the MOST prestigious, and competitive tournament in our state! Oh and if you’re a multi classic winner you’re making HISTORY! There are currently only 3 who’ve been 4x Classic champs and they’re all from Louisiana!
SADLY a NATIONALLY Ranked California team was INVITED to compete against our Louisiana kids! It’s NO secret, Louisiana is NOT known for our high level wrestling schools so WHY invite a NATIONALLY ranked team? California had 10 out of the 14 Louisiana Classic Champions you see in this picture so this year we may as well coin it as the “CALIFORNIA CLASSIC!”
Today was the saddest experience I’ve had in my 12yrs of being a wrestling mom! I witnessed seniors lose their last opportunity at being a classic champ, several who would’ve been a multi time champion and even more who could’ve made it to the finals or even a placement match!!!!
The man who invited this team was NOT thinking about the kids in Louisiana or their success which is BEYOND disappointing!
The team from California isn’t just any team, it was coached by Northside alumnus and former UFC Champion Daniel Cormier… Gilroy, CA is nationally ranked and ran away with the team championship, well over Jesuit, BM, and HC… their wrestlers combined to go 72-8
And the mom isn’t just any mom either I won’t name her but her son is very prominent and you can look it up on Facebook
Btw the Owls finished 12th… not bad. State is in three weeks.

Sounds like Clementi and Cormier need to fight now

They did that my senior year inviting el Reno down from Oklahoma. They swooped our butts. Don’t think it was as extreme as this though.

Crazy to see Brother Martin without any individual championships. Who’s this mom?

If they were in a podunk tournament this would be one thing, but we should expect the best we have at Jesuit, BM, and HC to compete with anybody anywhere.

Expected this to be a post saying it should still be called the Lee High Invitational

There is not a nicer person than Daniel Cormier

Look into how many colleges in La have wrestling teams...

I watched the Clemente finals match. I was there most of the tournament because I sponsored a weight class. He got pretty dominated the entire match although it wasn’t particularly high scoring. At the end giltoy kid stands up over ritchie looks into the stands and does the shoulder shrug like no biggie. It was wild. I wrestled in college for a year and Ive wrestled against D1 wrestlers. I was not expecting to see that kind of dominance. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our kids to get the experience and exposure. That post is absurd
Also my catholic guys tell me Ritchie is not a likeable kid

Her point was that the classic is considered the true state championship here. No divisions, just every kid in each weight class going at it. Everybody against everybody. If they want big teams from out of state here, then let's create a national tournament to help grow the sport here. I'm in College Station right now where my kids are wrestling in the Texas Nationals. Let's make a tournament like this in Louisiana. It'll help everyone, from Tots all the way through high schoolers.

1. It's NOT the LHSAA classic - it's the LOUISIANA classic.
2. They still have the state tournament.
3. Mom should educate herself on the actual facts.

Wrestling in Louisiana’s not been the same since Mid-South closed shop.

What a sore bitch. This will always be the Lee High Invitational to me.

Brother Martin was ranked in the teens nationally in the early 2000s. They’d go head to head with other nationally ranked programs like El Reno Oklahoma and others at Lee. So would some of the Jesuit guys.
That only helps improve the sports profile in the state.

This makes so sense. I'm sure she loves it when her son is shoving other kids in a trash can but when he gets his its all of a sudden a problem.
How about you be mad at your son for losing to some California queer?

This woman is wacko. I wrestled in the 80’s and was a Louisiana State Champion, also won 5 tournaments. Finished the season 28-3 and wrestled many of the same kids 2-3 times. Never recall out of State schools competing, just the occasional wrestler from a mid-western state entered.
My only chance to wrestle out of state kids was attending Summer camps at Iowa, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State. Most of the camp attendees were on a completely different talent level. I started wrestling in the 6th grade (NOLA) and the wrestlers from MW states made me look like a novice. I would have loved to compete vs. these kids which would have only made me a better wrestler
