Jesus Christ the LSU fans that can’t get over Malveto are the worst.
It’s worked for many other teams, there are different ways to set it up and establish responsibilities, it depends on the people you actually assign the roles to, if they are actually good coaches that should be coordinators, etc. Life isn’t so black and white.

I see a lot of post saying that the co offensive coordinator was just a title for hankton to get him to stay. How do we know that he won't be sharing in half of the play calling duties? Everyone assumes that Joe Sloan will be doing most of the play calling. Does anyone really KNOW this?
Per this quote from 24/7, it looks that way
quote:
The expectation is that LSU is going to promote QB coach Joe Sloan and WR coach Cortez Hankton to co-offensive coordinators with Sloan as the primary offensive play-caller, sources tell @247sports . With those two as interim co-OCs for LSU’s 35-31 bowl win over Wisconsin, the Tigers posted 492 yards of total offense.

No one on here KNOWS that for certain. But deductive reasoning suggest that will be the case. First, that was the arrangement in the bowl game. Second, two different guys calling plays is a recipe for disaster. Play calling is a fluid process. You always hear talk of a playcaller getting into a rhythm. That's because they are often calling plays with an idea of the overall approach they want to take and with forethought to build with the next play on the play they just called. When you have two people doing it you run a big risk of breaking continuity. One guy may see the way things are going differently than the other. He may be thinking about setting future plays up in a different way than the other coach is thinking. They may have a different approach as to what they want to do on specific downs and distances. Having two guys call plays could VERY EASILY create friction if one play caller doesn't like the approach of the other.
The non-playcaller will have input. But the ultimate decision on the play call will come from one voice.

The question is does LSU bring in a new dedicated QB coach now that Sloan has more broad responsibility?
I believe the NCAA is allowing analysts more on-field responsibilities for practices in ‘24. That’s why we’ve heard familiar names like Dana Holgorsen thrown around as a possible analyst.

We are forever jaded on the subject of co coordinators because of Mallory and Peveto. I guess we will have to give it another chance.

Sloan is going to call the plays. The CO-OC title is just to give both a promotion but the duties will be set in stone. Sloan will actually call the game with Hankton assisting on relaying the calls on the field to the offense. It might not work but it could also be very successful.

The “Co” part isn’t the issue.
It’s Joe sloan’s inexperience.
Let’s hope they actually think he can be an elite player, and not promoted in order to keep recruiting in sync.
Had Joe Sloan been the QB coach at Florida St, let’s say; it’s very unlikely he’d be a target for the OC job at a place like lsu

And this board loves to use “who else was hoping to hire him??”
No one but Vanderbilt.
His running game at LATech was slightly better than LSUs in 2021. Finished 107th overall in the run game and they weren’t dealing with coaching issues.

This board would be in nuclear melt down if someone started a thread and said…
My sources say the the next OC to be named will be a tandem. One was once a middle of the road CUSA OC in the only chance he got and one has never called plays at all.
This is very different than CBK hiring from within to keep continuity on a side of the ball that was the best in the country last year.

I'm sure Hankton will have input as to the game week game plan. That's what co coordinators do. Reliable input.

I'm sure one will take a solo OC job next year. These guys know our personnel and Denbrocks terminologies. We'll probably offer the better of the 2 stay here as Solo OC.

I'm not going to read through this whole thread, but did anyone else mention that this is essentially the setup we had with Ensminger and Brady?

Brady unleashed him in 2019.

It’s so easy to understand, they’re both co-ordinators in function as someone said. Y’all forgot not only is Hankton the WR Coach he’s also the passing game co-ordinator so he will be putting the weeks game plan together along with Sloan and BK. Now Joe Sloan will be in the booth calling plays with Hankton’s input, in the bowl game it looked smooth considering it was their first time doing it. It was Coach K’ s best move, he has some young innovative offensive minds running his offense and he gets to keep two of his best position coaches and recruiters happy, I say win, win, win all the way around.
