I honestly don't think Michigan would be high on Kelly's radar.
He was already at Notre Dame, which is an elite a Northern school as Michigan is. He left there to come try his hand in the SEC, and see what he can do; "win a championship" were the words, I believe.
He took over an LSU team that had gone sub-.500 the previous 2 seasons and had a severe roster shortage. As of now, he's had 2 10-win seasons, a win over Alabama and Nick Saban, an SEC West divisional title, and a Heisman Trophy winner. And he's just as aware as anyone else, he hasn't come near to reaching the program's potential as of yet.
If anything, the bigger threat to lose him would have been to Alabama, but he's already proven (to himself) that he can beat Alabama here.
