I’m actually glad OP started this thread. I have been wanting to start this book after seeing the first movie a few years ago when it came out and knowing second film is about to be released.

Also, I’ve tried googling and Alexa’ing my way to this prompt. I keep seeing Dune is a “trilogy” so how did we wind up with 6 Frank books and the two in which Brian finished it up? The original 6 on goodreads show all are authored by Frank but I don’t see a Dune 7 and Dune 8 on there.

Sorry if that’s dumb. I’m new to Dune universe and you’ve put a lot of good stuff in here so hoping you won’t mind answering.

TIA.

I'm not really sure. I'm guessing they mean either the Villeneuve films, which will be a trilogy of sorts. Or they mean the first three book which really do tie into each other. The 4th book, while still having some of the same characters, is wildly different from the first three.

You really could read just the first three books and have a satisfying ending to the series. But man, the fourth book is just so damn good.

I really hope yall get to at least God Emperor, because I'd love to discuss in detail on here.

I'm sure you're aware, but others may not be; the second Villeneuve film is really the 2nd half of the 1st Dune novel.

Next, Villeneuve plans to film Dune Messiah. I'm not sure which route he's going with it, but it seems to me like he should do like the Sci Fi Channel did and have Dune Messiah and Children of Dune be one movie.
