Been a firefighter nearly 30 years but since I’m no longer on the trucks and older, I am way more claustrophobic than I used to be. Watching that gave me a straight up panic attack, shite, I’m gonna have to clean myself up before my wife or kids see me and get worried

This guy was a med student that crawled head first into a tiny crevice, he probably would have endorsed the vaccine too.

In high school, 3 of us went to the Blue Grotto in Florida and dove with scuba 120' down to the cave entrance. We only had 1 flashlight. Stupid idiot with the light decided to switch it off to see what total darkness was like. The other 2 of us freaked. We were so far into the cave, pitch black, didn't know up from down, forward or backward, thinking we would die there. Then he switched the light back on. He got an ear full back at the surface.

I'll never dive into another cave without my own flashlight. Lesson learned.

As a former offensive lineman, I’m probably too fat for caving anyways… darn…

I was one in my younger days and never realized how claustrophobic I was until a training day we had one time that dealt with a "simulated collapse". They had us doing a blind right hand search and 4 or 5 guys take two mattresses wrapped in chainlink fence and lay it on top of you and hop on and you're supposed to get to your radio and call for help and activate you're emergency beacon. Not fun.

Then it got jacked up to a 10 on the panic scale with confined space rescue training. Jeez. I just wanted to walk into the flames and spray it with the hose. Didn't really think about going into culverts and shite with a bunch of ropes when figuring out what I wanted to do for work as a kid.

As one who did a lot of spelunking when young, I can visualize the tightness he experienced.

I have done a 150 yard crawl in a space barely large enough for a slender person to get through. It can be almost terrifying. I made that crawl 6 times in my lifetime, 3 each direction. I never could get it out of my mind when underneath all that rock, "what if an earthquake hits?" It was an almost obsessive thought while under that enormous slab.

My brother was with a group that had a member fall into a crevasse. He survived with a broken leg, but it was a 27 hour rescue. It didn't take that long to secure and remove him from the crevasse once the rescue team reached him. Getting the wire basket he was strapped in through the cave and to the surface was another story.

Spelunking is a lot of fun, but it is a very dangerous sport. A cave rescue is probably the most difficult scenario out there. One slip or misstep can mean disaster.

The guided tour of Luray Caverns was good enough for me.

I’ve read a few books about the guys that dove some of those underground underwater caves in Florida. That’s a whole lot of nope for me.

Yeah, that ain't for me. I've been in Ruby Falls and a few similar caves and that's enough for me.

I grew up near there and have been half a dozen times but I don’t think I could do it now. I’ve gotten more claustrophobic as an adult and Ruby Falls is a crack in the ground.

Now, Lost Sea I could probably do. That was fantastic.

It's unbearable for me to watch, I literally can't stay still.

I would freak the frick out if involuntarily placed in that position, but literally unthinkable I would do so voluntarily.

I freaked out as a kid over Lost Sea to the point that Pops stayed outside with me and went back in with another group of ours. I've never liked holes in the ground my entire life. I did eventually go years later and it was cool, but it took some doing on my part.
