Wade went out and started to take what he wanted without waiting his turn and doing it with the approval of the media, blue blood programs etc.

All of the basketball media darling universities do things that were prohibited to get top prospects. The only difference is that Wade probably didn't have the support network in place to accomplish this level of recruiting at his previous stops and found a way to do it himself.

McNeese AD looking to do everything possible to lock in his head guy "Willy the Kid" and keep him in Lake Charles for the long haul.

In other related news, LSU fans still sending basketball NIL money to McNeese State.

Not a tough decision when it’s between sending money to Will Wade or Matt McMahon

As a McNeese fan I’m happy but where the F did this money come from?

We can’t find a football coach and only offer up to 200k

Bill Self seems to be still respected by the national talking heads, and whet he did was just as bad if not worse than Wade. The national media just doesn’t like Wade because he tells it is. He’s not afraid to speak on things and he’s got a little arrogance to him.

Wade was a new kid on the block who was at a school that is not a basketball blue blood (LSU). If he would have done this while being the coach at Duke or Kentucky, no one would've cared and he would still be the coach there.

I think they choose to go the cheap route going with Goff and it’s backfiring

If you are inclined to provide NIL support, it is an easy decision about where to spend NIL money if you are a fan of a school rather than a coach. If you choose to financially support one University over another based on a coach who is not a family member, then you aren't a fan of either University regardless of how you try to justify it.

he's proven himself as a solid coach and will bail from LC if/when the right opportunity comes

I hope Louisville hires him. He’d crush it there and UK would hate it.

So true. Calipari was an outlaw until he got the Kentucky job. Now he can do no wrong.

I don't think they did.

At the time of the coaching search, McNeese was in talks with Pete Shinnick (UWF HC at the time, now HC at Towson). McNeese made an offer (or at least threw a number out there) and Shinnick countered with a higher number for his staff. Supposedly Schroyer went to see if he could get the funds from boosters and ended up getting more than he thought. Schroyer then pivoted and went with Goff.

The first part of that I know for a fact, the 2nd part I'm piecing together. I would have much rathered Shinnick because McNeese seemed to be a complete rebuild and he literally started UWF's program and had them in the DIII championship game year 2, won it year 4.

I don’t think anyone has the illusion that Will Wade will be a McNeese lifer. What this does do, is ensure that he is secure from getting poached by a mid-major. The UL Lafayettes of the world are not paying a $1mm buyout to pay him $1mm a year.

True, but what happens if Ohio State backs up the Brinks truck for him. $1M is nothing.

ULL is a poor example of a mid major that could pay him more than that. There are a bunch of hi mid majors that could play ball
