This setup is so damn lame now.

Meh... its just out in the open now. Been this way for decades.

Worst part now is the transfer portal. There use to be a consequence for leaving a program and it made these kids much more accountable. Now at the first sign of trouble they can bounce.. makes it tough on coaches too.

I don't care either way, but it has never been like this. You never had companies like MAPP and Gordon giving potentially millions to players. You never had public-traded companies involved.

It was against the rules, and that precluded a large percentage of alumni and companies getting involved. It was also mostly cash payouts, which was an additional barrier.

Sure, you had people getting no-show jobs and $1,000 bucks here and there. Maybe a high-level guy occasionally got a decent amount of money. But to imply that it has always been like this is fantasy land.

C'mon man. Have there been instances in the past similar to what is going on now? Of course there have. But it is really getting old for the same old myth to be propagated that the extent of what is going on now has always been going on. An analogy would be two drunks getting into a fight outside of a bar (old situation) compared to a full blown bar fight with dozens of participants (happening now). It isn't remotely the same as it used to be...much more prevalent now and as you said it is out in the open pretty much.
