Several CBS News reporters were caught up in layoffs at Paramount Global that claimed 800 jobs, including one who is embroiled in a high-stakes First Amendment fight — and another who has reportedly weathered HR probes over his workplace behavior, The Post has learned.
Catherine Herridge — an award-winning senior correspondent whose First Amendment case is being closely watched by journalists nationwide — was among the hundreds of employees at CBS parent Paramount who got pink slips on Tuesday, sources told The Post.
Insiders said that Herridge had clashed with CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews — a sharp-elbowed executive who was investigated in 2021 over favoritism and discriminatory hiring and management practices, as revealed by The Post.
Sources said that CBS News’ Washington bureau where Herridge covered national security and intelligence was hit particularly hard.

When the incident was investigated in 2021, insiders said Ciprian-Matthews attempted to “blame” the female correspondent and eventually gave Pegues a promotion — despite prior allegations that Pegues had been “lashing out” and “bullying” younger female reporters who “outworked” him, a former CBS manager told The Post.
Also among those laid off on Tuesday was Christina Ruffini, a political correspondent who has been featured on “CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell,” “CBS Mornings” and “CBS Sunday Morning.” Also cut was Pamela Falk, CBS News correspondent for the United Nations based in New York, according to sources.
A CBS source said, CBS News, which employs just under 2,000 people, got hit with 20 job cuts altogether.

Sounds like they got rid of some terrible fake news propagandists but held on to even worse fake news propagandists.

Were the layoffs done in order to replace the people with more lamestreamers? Twenty layoffs from the news department does not seem like it's much of an impact.

Herridge needs to go independent. She's always struck me as a straight shooter who follows and presents facts. Her skills are wasted while overseen by fake news outlets.

Damn. Has anyone given Taylor Lorenz a wellness check?

Herridge may soon be held in contempt of court for not divulging her source for an investigative piece she penned in 2017 when she worked for Fox News and be ordered to personally pay fines that could total as much as $5,000 a day.
A source close to the situation said Fox News is paying for Herridge’s legal counsel.
Herridge’s departure comes as the journalist faces heat for not complying with US District Judge Christopher Cooper’s order to reveal how she learned about a federal probe into a Chinese American scientist who operated a graduate program in Virginia.

Most of the people with CBS could be let go and no one would notice.
I just looked at the article on the NYPost and the pictures are quite interesting. Herridge is older (?) and white, the president and Pegues are "dark skinned". Makes you wonder what's going on.

Legacy media is dying, especially the corrupted old line "news."
I just re-opened Paramount+ streaming. They now force two commercials when you select a movie or show. The first one was about 2 minutes of soft gay porn. That's when I found out that they wouldn't allow me to skip that crap.

Tucker Carlson has shown the way.
Regardless of where you stand on his reporting or biases, he and several others (eg, Taibbi) have shown that a parole like this is how you get the cash flowing without a leash or muzzle.

I always viewed her as an old school, factual journalist.

Herridge is the real deal. Her investigative work and willingness to go to the mat for her sources is admirable. It’s unfortunate that news pundits are the only ones that have found a way to make money going independent. Hope she figure out how to make that happen or finds a new outlet with integrity.
