A 50mm scope will require mounts that have the scope higher above the barrel. Find a quality scope that fits the rings and clears the barrel on the BLR and you’ll be good to go.
The amount of light available at the end of legal time varies by the conditions of the day and the location of your stand. I hunt for mature bucks and does. At last light, it can be difficult to verify those targets, regardless of optics. There are days when I end my hunt before the law allows because I don’t want to shoot the wrong deer.
I would much rather have $1,200 binos and a $600 scope that the other way around. You’ll use the binos a whole lot more than the scope and quality binos will also help with target identification when it gets late.
I was given a BLR .22 for my tenth birthday. I’ve always intended to get one in a deer caliber, but have done it yet. That .308 BLR is a great woods rifle.
