I thought it was bad writing to let Paulie, a drunk to deal with the finances.

It has aged better as I get older…… but I think killing off Creed was disastrous for the rest of the franchise… maybe for 4 they could have had Creed in a coma and he wakes up after the fight. That would have been a cool trajectory. …. 5 was going to be hard anyway following the monster hit that was 4.

If you go back and rewatch Rocky III through the lens of it being a romantic comedy telling the story of how Rocky and Apollo became lovers, it will completely change the way you perceive every film in the series

So they got it on in the Pacific Ocean?

I will go back and watch it through those lens.

Jamohn is correct except I prefer 3 slightly over 4.

The villains are the best part of Rocky and listen, Tommy boy just was so far below Clubber, Drago, and Apollo, it’s not even funny.

Can't believe 2 is getting such a raw deal in this thread. It's easily the 2nd best movie in the series.

3 is entertaining and fun but cheesy to an extent.

4 is probably the most liked because of the story line and villain arc but still falls behind 2 as a stand alone movie IMO. Although I would say 4 is probably the most rewatchable.

That actually kinda makes sense because Rocky is dumb and in the beginning Paulie was a respectable guy in his eyes. He also had to give him something to do in "Rocky Inc."

You mean the story that is told in 5 minutes around an hour and 20 minutes of music videos?

Yes, the whole USA vs Russia vengeance plot.

I didn't say it was deep.

I completely agree.

It's a great character study of how a bum like Rocky handles fame and fortune. Just because he went the distance with Creed didn't mean his other problems went away once he left the Spectrum.

He couldn't read, didn’t know how to manage money, couldn’t get an office job, and couldn’t even keep his job as a laborer. He had to learn to accept that he was a fighter.

And after having a kid and Adrian in the hospital, he understood he had to be a great fighter to provide for his family. The story is crucial to Rocky's character development, and there are no sequels without it.
