that's really the bigger difference. my son loves all basketball, so i endure NBA with him. i viewed it as an exhibition game and enjoyed it for that sake.
i tell him all the time this sort of shite is not what we had in the 80s and 90s. those dudes hated each other and you could tell they barely even wanted to be on the same team together. Lebron trying to set up Jokic or Luka for poster dunk would be an unthinkable concept 30 years ago.
Ewing, Miller, Barkley, Stockton, Malone, Thomas, Lambier, etc.
His closest example to that is Draymond.
