It’s all statistics and analytics for the dealer/OEM to come out ahead. It’s a roll of the dice individually, with slight odds in your favor.
Like earliers stated, it’s more for peace of mind (kind of like how insurance would be if not required).

I’ve never got it and worked out so far (knock on wood).

It’s just an accounting liability and they never work out in the consumers favor at anything other than the individual here and there.

A typical warranty is basically half commission to the stealership for originating it, 25% going to warranty co opex and 25% into the actual reserve account. Once you figure out why they only need 25% reserves you’ll figure out why they’re such a bad deal.
