The SEC has fined LSU $100,000 after fans at the Maravich Assembly Center rushed the court following a dramatic win over No. 17 Kentucky, the league announced Thursday. The Tigers beat the Wildcats 75-74 on a last-second shot from Tyrell Ward after trailing by 15 early in the second half Wednesday night.

It marked LSU's first offense under the SEC's enhanced "access to competition area policy" that was implemented last year. A second offense would result in a $250,000 fine while all subsequent offenses would lead to $500,000 fines. When the violations occur after games against league foes, the money is paid to the opponent, according to the SEC policy.

You can't put a price on kids and a team having a moment of fun. Well, maybe you can. $100k - $500k!

I guess I could somewhat understand the logic behind the fine. The school could be sued if some bozo hurts another person while running on to the court/field. So they have to give school an incentive to try to discourage such happenings.

But paying the fine to the opponent? WTF? It's not like Kentucky is somehow out $100k because LSU fans celebrated. And all this dumbass policy does is make the "rich" get richer. No one is rushing the floor if they beat Vanderbilt or Ole Miss. Hell, given the increasing nature of the fines it is conceivable a school like Kentucky could make $500k - $1M simply by losing! "Hey buddy. Why don't you go ahead and miss this free throw. We need the dues!"

Is that the same fine you get if football rushes the field? Seems kind of strange they would be the same cost.

Maybe it’s thought to be more motivating. Students who run out onto the floor probably think “it’s not my money.” But if they know it’s going to a hated opponent, maybe they would think twice. Probably not, I guess it’s worth a try.

There were like 100+ people on the court last night. They weren't that wild from what I could see and kind of meandered their way on the court not really a storming. Weak for SEC to fine us there.

Isn't the SEC the only conference that imposes a fine?

Safety risks associated with court storming have received more attention this season after Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark collided with a fan while exiting the court at Ohio State after the Buckeyes beat the Hawkeyes.

Kentucky says thanks, we’ll take $100K and give up one loss. Such stupidity.

That is a stupid rule.
The school has no control over the situation other than to use physical force which would be more dangerous.
Let the fans have their fun.

Bayou Barbie should step up and pay this our of her Millions of NIL for the university since she was one of the first ones on the court.
It was great to see her, Del Rosario, Velez, and other members of the women's team there cheering them on.

Would be very childish to write STTDB in the memo line.

Not saying they should not have done so, just that it would be childish. And funny in the rather large 5th grade humor portion of my brain.

That same part of my brain thinks it would also be funny to hire 50 delivery drivers to each deliver a $2000 check at the same time. To resemble rushing the accounting offices in Lexington.
