Grew up going to a camp out there and I loved it. I don't know what it's like nowadays, but the few people I knew that lived out there (and camp there) love it.

I'd LOVE to live on False River, but the real estate prices are unreal....

The locals tell everyone that it sucks and people should go to Zachary or Prarieville instead. And take your chain restaurants with you.

Interpret that however you want.

Probably a very nice option if your kids are 3rd grade or older. The STEM school is actually decent. The new mayor is competent. The little downtown is nice.

And it’s Tony Clayton’s district so not much tolerance for crime.

It’s a very nice town and a hidden gem in Louisiana if you don’t mind limited options for restaurants and relatively high real estate prices for a small town. A lot of the houses on the lake are actually vacation homes or Air B&B’s.

New Roads has is a hospital, a Super Wal Mart, a finance/accounting consulting company, a decent hardware store, and a couple of power plants. It’s kind of self sufficient but it’s also slowly turning more into a bedroom community for Baton Rouge.

They’ve gotten a bit tighter on development so it will probably never be super crowded.

Purchased a camp there recently. Really small town feel to it, clean, great food in the area to choose from. Great views being on the lake. Looking forward to some summers out there with the family.

It’s a very nice small town. It’s trying hard to stay that way.

They pushed hard against a big production builder recently and are using some of the same anti-development tactics that West Feliciana has deployed.

By design New Roads won’t change very quickly. It’s definitely getting some new residents that commute to Baton Rouge but it is still pretty far out to really feel like a generic suburb.

Lots of “Old” generational money in the area. If you are not born there you will never be in the clicks, but you are correct, it has some really beautiful landscapes. Private schools will likely be the better option because they’ve had to lax on the requirements at the STEM school to keep the student population diverse enough.

Grew up with a camp on the Island side and I love New Roads. My brother's wife is from there and one of my best friend lives there.

We ride around the river bar hopping...D'z Corner Bar, Daiquiri Dinner, Bergeron's, Bueche's, Jim's, etc...

I lived there for 3 years, it is not a bad town. Downtown is nice, they are slowly getting more and more things. Tons of good looking women in New Roads, they all marry plant baws. God for bid if something ever happened to Turner Industries. I enjoyed my time there, but I do not think I would want to live my whole life there. The people that do live there, generally have lived their whole life there, tons of drinking and fricking going down in New Roads

I grew up there. I liked it, and would probably move back if I could afford a place on the lake. might move back one day when I can, and when my kids get out of school. A place on the lake would be the only way I'd consider moving back though. work was a deciding factor in leaving. of course now, lots of people work from home, etc. and residence location isn't a problem. It's a nice town.

It's a very typical small town parish in Louisiana. Quiet laid back living but also lots of nepotism, incompetent leadership, cliques, and a lack of amenities and jobs.

False River is nice, food is good, and it's a nice location (can easily drive to BR, Lafayette, the basin) so it has a few more redeeming qualities than your typical rural Louisiana parish.

We had a camp my entire life on False River . Dad wanted to retire out there .
Built a nice house on the river by the court house . Just sold it.
They enjoyed their time there for years. When they got older Dr. appts were too far away , house was too much to keep up.
Only negatives I can think of are it’s a certain type of people who live there. Very cliquish , nosy small town type stuff.
Crime was getting worse . The getto is just across the tracks. Big houses on the river are an easy mark.
It will cost you a fortune to buy on the river . Legit OT baller to pull that off.

Don’t do your knuckle checks at Sonic. That’s relatively new.

Do them at Big Boys Drive-in — that’s the old school Sonic (was Sonic, but had to change so they could keep selling fried chicken).
