I'm sure a lot has changed but we only had one meal we considered great and it was at The Bank restaurant almost on Trinity College Campus.

Really cool old bank turned restaurant with the old vaults down by the bathroom.

Second The Bank. Non-traditional food but very good. (Irish food isn't anything to brag about anyway.
Leo Burdock for fish and chips. No seating. A lot of cabbies eat there. There is a steak place down the street from that, Bull and Castle. There uses to be a brew pub upstairs if I remember correctly.
If you want to get out of Dublin take a short train ride to Howth (pronounced hote), a seaside village with plenty of restaurants.
I'll be in Dublin this weekend when it'll be good drinking weather.
