Please keep us updated and good luck. Like I said, in my situation, the heavier oil did the trick for me. I did want to clarify though. I have been using the heavier oil now for about 175k miles. Before and after that I have had a constant check engine light on. Light has been on for -15 years. I’m the kind of guy that doesn’t care about a check engine light on as long as the truck runs fine and is reliable. Hell my truck is 22 years old now. Like me ( I’m in 50’s) it’s tired with aches and pains every day. A friend plugged his code reader into my truck, because he was interested , a while back and it was lots of codes including three cylinder misfires. Lol. Truck runs fine so I could care less about the light. I’m now curious how many miles I am going to get out of this engine… 500k????

I had an 05’ Chevy Z71 crew cab with the 5.3 purchased new that I ended up trading in with 220K miles. Loved the truck. Three biggest issues were 1) Check engine came on around 35K miles, throwing a code for knock sensors. A faulty design in my opinion, the sensor was located where water accumulated on top of the block. 2) had the ticking from the lifters which I chose not to do anything about but it was annoying. 3) for some reason I went through hub bearings more than any other vehicle I’ve ever owned.
