Luckily, the NBA had a rule that defined a dunk, when it was a prohibited shot-- so you can't wag a finger and say its modern 2024 rules definitions talking to you-- take it up with 1967.
By rule, that would have been an illegal shot during the Alcindor Rule era. It is a dunk.

It’s like jerking yourself off and calling it sex. The results are the same, the mechanics are similar, but something just isn’t right about it.
