LSU will never do the opt out thing. If they didn’t do it in 2021 for the Texas Bowl they’ll never do it. They had all the justification in the world to do it then but went out and played the game.

Except for that time they declined an NIT bid in 2016. But otherwise, you’re right.
LSU didn’t not “opt out” of the Texas Bowl because of some deep sense of pride. Hell, Nussmier could have been the starting QB by literally just showing up…and he didn’t. They played because they are a member of the SEC…which has a contractual multi-million dollar tie-with the Texas Bowl. In other words, the SEC “If you want your share of the bowl money you’re going to honor your obligation to play.”
The schools get about $6k per game for playing in the NIT. I don’t think anyone at OU was going to create an uproar over the loss of a potential $30k
