I’ve been going to Ireland pretty regularly for the last 15 years and haven’t noticed the influx of migrants like they have had in the UK, even in Dublin.
It was surprising when they were one of the 1st EU countries to ban indoor smoking, including pubs. They followed that up with an approval of abortion and same sex marriage. It was refreshing to see that the 2 referendums that Varadkar backed got soundly defeated.

The changes in Irish society have been really dramatic. When my grandmother was growing up there, high school was all private, and many people couldn't afford to send their kids to school, but the Irish population is among the very highest educated in all of Europe now and Dublin has a business district that looks like a mini-Silicon valley. They've basically become a European hub of US corporate power and the wealth doesn't trickle down to the average worker, and their housing situation is miserable, but it's still way better than the agrarian society they had before.
