Easiest way to fix out-in swing path

its horribly frustrating. I get the general by the book ideas of what it's supposed to be but when I hit a shot....my divot always has the to far left divot even if its a good shot. Its most disastrous with my driver...while there is no divot based on the ball flight and spin I know its out to in. When I really try to exaggerate it I really block it right so I guess I don't square the face it that instance. struggle to find that swing feel or thought that makes it seem natural. any ideas?

Turn left shoulder closed to target at address and shorten the hell out of your swing

You need to fix this to play decent golf. Have you taken a lesson? Ideally one with video and computer analysis? I worked lot with the Smart Ball and one of the things it did was to help straighten this out.

The easiest drill I know is when you're on the range but a ball about 3" to the outside and maybe 1-2" behind the ball you're trying to hit.
It's not so much what happens after you hit the ball but the path leading into contact so having that ball there will remind/force/help keep you more inside.

Everyone told me I couldn’t play golf with an out to in swing, so I spent a couple years really working on path and focusing on hitting a draw. Ruined my game, and now I’m back trying to hit cuts which is when I’m hitting the ball the best.
I say that to say, be very careful doing this on your own. Go see an instructor if you want to do it right.

Lessons are probably your best bet. If you’re looking for videos, go look up the Marooch guy on YouTube. He literally screams the information to you, but the simplicity with what he’s saying has helped me a ton.

Don’t do like a buddy of mine and put your stand bag off your left leg at address. He broke his driver shaft that he was swinging and his 3 wood shaft in his bag.

Recently my swing thought has been to add lag at the top. If I slow my tranisition at the top it helps me start the downswing in a better position. Got the idea from a video Bryson did actually. It worked immediately.

Not necessarily. I take a divot that run outside/in for 20 years now and last year was down to a 2.7 handicap and was a scratch for quite some time. If the muscle memory is there and you can make that same swing consistently, you can have an off plane swing. Mine is not bad, I don't know how bad off plane the OP's is, but mine is more than manageable, much less a swing that won't allow me to play decent golf.
That being said, I would definitely encourage him to get lessons as well though.

Get someone to look at your swing. You can youtube it to death but unless you know exactly what is causing you to swing that way you can't attack the problem. You could end up working on something that doesn't need to be fixed.

“Reverse the loop”: exagerate taking the club away to the outside of your target line and then feel like your hands are dropping towards the ground at the start of your downswing. Watch videos of Lee Trevino swinging driver down the line to see what it should look like. (Like the clubhead is making a big counterclockwise loop.). Again, really exaggerate this in practice to groove the feeling and then dial it back a bit once you’ve got it.

Take a lesson from a pga pro. Corey Webber teaches at Carter really quality guy and teacher!

Take a backswing back about half way, tuck your elbow into the right edge of you rib cage and swing keeping elbow tucked in. Work on that then gradually take a bigger backswing. That will set the club inside and create a better swing plane while also helping square the face.

Tuck a glove under trail armpit and make a swing keeping that thing tucked. Won’t fix it, but it’s a relatively easy starting point.

Highly recommend a lesson if you can get one. If not, hitting balls with someone who plays well could be helpful to look at your swing.

Tuck your elbow and bow your wrists

In the never-ending quest to band aid my swing, I have this problem too. It comes and goes and I've developed some bad habits. I've noticed that my alignment has crept more and more closed. Last week I corrected it and it felt like I was 200 yards open at address. Just that one adjustment "fixed" some of my out-in path. I guess my brain was overcompensating when I thought my alignment was fine.
Also, the glove drill someone mentioned helped out a lot.
I spent a lot of time adjusting my grip and that had the most affect. When I get too weak, I pull everything left and then I compensate to too strong and I hit missiles about 300 yards right with a push slice. It's a fine line but that's what has helped me lately.

A split grip drill will help with this. Assuming you're right handed, take your normal grip with your left hand then place your right hand below the bottom of the grip. Take some slow swings that way and gradually increase the speed. You literally can't come over the top when holding the club that way. It will help ingrain the feeling of 1) coming from in to out and 2) turning your body.
