Pauls 07 team was bad 2011 was bad as well. 2020 was well on its way to being a bad year.

For me? Because in the 9th inning of a CWS elimination game, he chose his most unreliable bullpen option available at the time. Billy Sadler. Guy had struggled with confidence for weeks before that appearance and had the look of "why, coach?" as he came to the mound. Outcome entirely predicable.

Billy Sadler, the guy who I watched pitch for the San Francisco Giants back in 08 or 09? That Billy Sadler?

Yeah he wasn't an All American but to act like those teams had no talent is ludicrous. Omaha is a crapshoot and we rolled snakeyes two years in a row. Coming right after an all-time legend that feels like a much worse result than it actually is.

Fun fact: Smoke's SEC record his last two years (31-29) was better than Maineri's (30-30).

Smoke’s first year in 2002 they went 44-22 made a Super. 2003 they went 45-22-1 won the SEC Championship, made the CWS and he was SEC coach of the year. 2004 they went 46-19 and made the CWS. 2005 they went 40-22 and made Regional. 2006 they went 35-24. So Smoke only won 100 more games than he lost in 5 years. Why does this board shite on him?

Because he took over, at the time, the greatest baseball program and progressively got worse each year.

Before 2005, LSU had never missed a Super Regional. Before 2006, LSU had never missed the postseason since 1988.

Smoke was a terrible coach.

Fun fact, Mainieri made the super regionals his last two years. Smoke missed LSU's first super regional his second to last year and missed the postseason altogether his last year.
