It is really strange how much certain people treat usps as some sort of sacred national good/source of national pride
It’s an antiquated vestigial structure, and it’s original purpose was to be a source of revenue for govt

Private companies delivering mail actually started around 1800. It was strictly city delivery services. But they were banned because local and state politicians were using post office director and manager jobs as reward for support (patronage system). Or they were appointing relatives to the jobs.
