just came across Buttermilk, Kansas the other day and got me thinking about other towns with unique names.

I grew up in a rural area of North Alabama between a small town named Altoona and a small community called Tait’s Gap that once was known, at least to the old folks, as “Opossum Trot Holler”. l dare say I’m probably one of only a handful of people under the age of 80 that even knows this random stretch of State Road 132 once actually had a name.
