Kind of in the same boat. I plan on buying a Weber Genesis and getting the griddle insert. Two birds, one stone. 
Cleaning a griddle insert has to be easier than cleaning an entire griddle/grease cup, etc. At least in my mind it is which is how I'm justifying the combo purchase.

The grease trap just gets drained out unless you’re super anal about it.
