I view them as a “new blood” and that’s not a knock at all. To me, “blue blood” is more of a historical endearment type thing. Folks in Kansas, Indiana, North Carolina, and Kentucky are obsessed with basketball. Their programs have been historically relevant. UConn is the most dominant program of the past 25 years …

Well, technically, neither is Duke or Kansas.

Kansas’s 22 title certainly helps them bc it gave them 4 but I’ve always looked at them kind of like Michigan football.

6 titles in 25 years makes them a new money blueblood for me. As good a job for new young coaches as UK, UNC, Duke, UCLA, or KU.

So essentially, if your first title was won within the last 50 years, it’s impossible to become a blueblood

The UNC, UK and Duke fans are jealous of UConn’s 6-0 record. Seems like those fans are making stuff up at this point.

My hope is UConn ushers in a better product in college basketball. They play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. A true team effort. It’s beautiful to watch. And they will continue to smoke this hero ball/Steph Curry bullshite.

Except that Indiana is NOT like the other "Blue Bloods". Kansas, UNC, UK and Duke have all won Championships in the last 20 years. Indiana hasn't won a title since 1987...we are talking almost 40 years since they last won a title. Heck Indiana hasn't even been to a Final Four in 22 years. Indiana hasn't even been a top 5 program in the B1G for the last 20 years. At some point, something has to give with Indiana. Ohio State has MORE Final Fours than Indiana and has been more relevant in the modern era. There are a LOT of people under the age of 45 who simply do not see Indiana as a Blue Blood. That is just the truth of the matter. UConn on the other hand, has been THE most dominant basketball program to those same 45 and under people during that same time span.

Agreed. Indiana hasn’t been relevant in over 20 years. When I think Indiana relevance I think of Bobby Knight. They’re the Nebraska of college basketball.

Because of the multiple seasons with no tournament appearances and bottom half league finishes

Is it time to throw these takes in the shitter?

They have the 3rd most national championships of any program

Whats crazy about this is that by the late 80's, early 90's Duke was considered a blue blood...but they were shite until the 60's. So 20 years of success makes them one, but not 20 years of success for UConn.

Uconn is absolutely a blue blood

If Duke and North Carolina are considered blue blood, then UCONN has to be because they have accomplished more than them.

6 titles in only 7 Final Four appearances is insane.

UNC also has 6 titles but 21 F4s. Duke has 5 and 17. Kansas has 4 and 16.
Michigan is the anti-UConn with a 1-6 record in title games

Basically, when is UCONN is good, they're a REALLY good and win it all.

When they're mediocre or not good, they don't even register as a blip on the radar.

Absolute feast or famine type of program, but it's ceiling is better than anyone else in the nation and I don't think it's close.

UCLA was just in the Final Four in 2021 and went to 3 straight Sweet 16s in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Nebraska hasn't been close to being that relevant in football since the late 90s/early 2000s.
